About Young Actor's Institute (YAI)

To fulfill the hopes, dreams, and aspirations of 10- to 14-year-old artists in our local community, by providing a theatrical program that demonstrates a professional level of customer service with reliable, up to date, and emerging performing art techniques.


In July of 1988, Bob West, Youth Performing Arts School Principal, asked the founder, Clint Vaught (1948-2011) to develop a theatrical program that would be available to the community. After recruiting 5 teachers and enrolling 55 students in the initial class, the Young Actors Institute was born. The program has since grown and quickly evolved into a labor of Mr. Vaught. After losing a dear friend and colleague in the fall of 2011, the Youth Performing Arts School pledged to continue on with Mr. Vaught's dream. In his memory the program was renamed, Clint Vaught Young Actors Institute.

Come join us at YAI this summer where students 4th to 8th grade have the opportunity to learn Acting, Dance, Voice, and Production from industry professionals as well as put on a full scale musical. On the first day of camp, students will take part in a low-stress group audition (no need to prepare anything) in order to be cast. On Day 2, we'll begin rotating through classes where students will learn the basics of Musical Theater Dance, Acting Theory, Scenic Design, and Music Theory while also rehearsing for our show. In the afternoon, all students will join the director, choreographer, and music director onstage for an "all-call" rehearsal to put everything they've learned in class on the stage. By the end of 2 weeks, we'll have completely learned a full production ready to perform. On the final day of camp,there will be 2 public performances of our show, so that parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles and friends can come see how hard their student has worked! Additionally this will be a great opportunity for parents to learn about the admissions process and some of the majors YPAS has to offer. We hope to see you there!

Registration for YAI 2020 is $375

This includes two weeks of tuition, a make up applicator kit, a camp T-shirt, a production fee, and 1 comp ticket to one of our final performances of the show.




Tech Production

This year, YAI has been refocused to culminate in a final performance featuring each student who participated in YAI.



Additionally, each show will begin with a brief information session hosted by a YPAS faculty member and the YPAS Director, Ms. Melissa Case. This session is a great opportunity for parents to learn more about the curriculum and departments at YPAS and our admissions process.

  • Students will be dancing in Dance class and painting/ creating in Production class. Please come dressed in appropriate attire and be advised that you might get a little messy.
  • Socks or dance shoes for Marley dance floor (no street shoes)
  • Lunch (no refrigeration or food services provided, microwave available)
  • Backpack (no lockers available)
  • Your creativity!
We understand that scheduling issues arise. We ask to please identify any scheduling conflicts during registration. If the attending artists will be unable to attend or leaving early during the program, we ask to please send a note notifying the program office.
